Welcome to 2015! I had a restful and somewhat productive time over the holidays. It's nice to visit family and friends and catch up on some good reading. I read books by David Baldacci (one of my favorites), James Patterson and a few others. I enjoy all types of fiction, particularly mysteries and politically-influenced thrillers. I did have a bit of a working vacation, wrapping up some loose ends from the fall semester and planning for the spring.
It's been a productive week submitting conference abstracts, grant proposals and other projects. I'm hopeful for a very busy year of creative research. Thankfully, I'm really focused on meeting deadlines. I have a database of upcoming deadlines for several upcoming projects. That list is helpful when prioritizing writing and research. I'd rather be highly organized and submit early than miss a great opportunity due to poor logistical planning. I do find that's one of the areas of research and scholarship that takes some practice. I feel better once a proposal, paper or manuscript is "out the door".
I'm not big on resolutions. I'd rather focus my energies on purposeful creative work, steady and solid progress and consistency. That is my simple goal for this year. I hope to apply it in all aspects of my life. We'll see what happens!
Here's wishing family, friends and colleagues a happy and healthy 2015.
Best wishes,
Dan
